A production of Macbeth set in a hidden, rural trailer park deep in the Appalachian or Southern backcountry offers a rich, more visceral understanding of both the play and the region’s culture. This version of Macbeth depicts a community framed by the remoteness and beauty of Appalachia, in a park known as “Scotland”. Within the park presents its own social hierarchy and complex set of power dynamics, including a “King” of Scotland, a patriarch respected by others in his community and seen as an authority figure.

While feeling of another decade, it stands alone in terms of pop culture and reference. The stark simplicity of the landscape—a place where you can feel the weight of need, control, and isolation—deepens the audience’s understanding of the psychological and emotional forces driving both the Macbeth’s and their opposition’s choices, making their descent into madness feel hauntingly familiar and unnervingly real. In such a production, both Macbeth’s brutal ambition and the Southern experience of resilience amidst hardship are made intimately tangible, showing how primal human desires and struggles transcend both time and place.
