Iphigenia Crash Land Falls On The Neon Shell That Was Once Her Heart

(A Rave Fable)

Fall 2023

Iphigenia Crash Land Falls On The Neon Shell That Was Once Her Heart reminds us that we have for many reasons become deeply unfeeling to brutalization in a harsh, darkly funny, intense, violent, voyeuristic study of man's propensity to inflict and justify violence. Using a story that echoes throughout time in many kinds of art, story, narrative, and medium this production shows that structures created and placed by man continue to punish the “others” of society and showcases how we justify it, while also reminding us of its modern influence backdropped by the ongoing femicide in Juarez, Mexico. By using technology, the show introduces the idea that these acts of violence are entertainment themselves and that society “needs” this level of violence to continue to feel, be moved, and continue harming each other.

With a play space established in an abandoned aircraft hangar on the outskirts of the city, a collaborative memorial is constructed in secret for and by a community unable to mourn without retribution. This take on Iphigenia hears the calls from centuries ago, and reminds us of the cyclical nature of bloodlust, and purposeless violence.
